Internal APIs Turned External
Part 2 of a series of doodles in which I explore various strategy archetypes used to build developer platforms
Scenario: Your company has built an internal API for your frontend apps to use. Wouldn’t it be so easy to make this API public for the rest of the world to use??
Nope! Hold that deploy button.
Turning the exact same API used internally into a public API will lead to all sorts of headaches that affect scalability, security, developer experience, and speed of internal development.
Not only that, you might also wake up one day and realize your customers are your competitors.
